12 Rounds
"My Big Hero"
(nothing)
-Chris Kelly
Starting off with only a recorded heartbeat,
"Come On In Out Of The Rain," the album's opening track, sets
the tone for the rest of the record. With its hypnotic keyboard and electric
drums backing singer Claudia Sarne's ominous voice, "Come On In Out
Of The Rain" is truly a touch into darkness.
"My Big Hero," which was written in 12 Rounds' basement in early '97, is a unique masterpiece. Written by members Claudia Sarne and Atticus Ross, it is a wondrous and exciting run through the underground life of today, expressed solely through their music.
"Where Fools Go," which contains a sample "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, grabs you from the start, and doesn't let go until the last chord. Unlike the slow, tired music of the first several tracks, "Where Fools Go" awakes the listener with an array of synthesized sounds and samples.
Unlike modern techno music, the ten tracks on "My Big Hero" are full of memorable hooks, verses and choruses, which is rather unique for this genre.
12 Rounds was recently picked up by Marilyn Manson, and will be touring with him through November.
