As the lights went down and American Hi-Fi took the stage, frontman Stacy Jones set the evening's tone by yelling, "Are you guys ready to fucking rock?"
American Hi-Fi, keeping true to the sound on their debut self-titled record, played a fiercely energetic set. And while the audience was initially anxious for Our Lady Peace to come onstage, they quickly started moshing to Hi-Fi's charged, Nirvana-esque anthems. The band finished their set with "Flavor of the Weak," their most recent single.
The energy when Our Lady Peace took the stage, however, was unparalleled. The group moved through their repertoire of hits, playing songs such as "Is There Anybody Home," "Superman's Dead," and "Automatic Flowers." In addition, they featured tracks from their latest record, Spiritual Machines, including "Are You Sad," "Right Behind You," and their latest American single, "Life."
The band was exuberant and interactive, often letting the crowd sing a significant portion of a song. Singer Raine Maida's emotional and strong stage presence made the show even more entertaining, and drummer Jeremy Taggart provided the raw power that so many fans look forward to.
As a whole, the evening was flawless. Though an unlikely pair of bands to play together, American Hi-Fi and Our Lady Peace complimented each other, offering a perfect set of pure rock talent. |
