If the Backstreet Boys failed, by getting married and turning thirty, to make themselves seem old to their leagues of thirteen-year-old fans, then releasing a greatest hits compilation after a mere four years together will certainly do the trick.

The included tracks have nearly all been at the top of MTV’s charts before, excluding a few filler picks from their latest record, Black and Blue; and the music is mostly lovesick pining for unattainable crushes, with the only exception being “The Call,” on which the boys attempt a more daring image. “I Want It That Way,” one of the best pop songs ever written and certainly the Boys’ strongest, is invariably a highlight.

So while it’s unlikely that real fans will drop their hard-earned cash for a single new track, those who have never had the courage to march to the register with the entire BSB catalogue will find this to be a perfect “Christmas present for a friend – I swear.” Don’t worry: we won’t tell.

(Included tracks: Quit Playing Games (With My Heart), Everybody (Backstreet's Back), I Want It That Way, As Long As You Love Me, All I Have To Give, I'll Never Break Your Heart, Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely, Larger Than Life, Shape of My Heart, More Than That, The Call, The One, Drowning)
