The Busters

"Make a Move"

(Moon Ska)

-Alex Rubic

Well, thank you to Moon Ska for upholding their tradition of producing notoriously kick-ass ska bands. The Busters' new album, "Make A Move," clearly exhibits this. This twenty-two song masterpiece is one you must add to your collection. This German group has it all. The album shows upbeat ska tunes, mellow reggae, and good sense of humour in the lyrics. The vocals are reminiscent of the Toasters, the drums are sick, and the horn section is so tight, it almost hurts.

As mentioned earlier, the Busters seem to have a good sense of humor. "I Want to Break Your Heart" is a bouncy tale of a guitar player singing while poking a voodoo doll of his ex-girfriend full of pins. While still on the subject of ex-girlfriends, "Six Beers + Rocksteady Music" cries of the sadness involved in breaking up ("My six beers / Are my only friends tonight").

Don't get me wrong, the Busters do have a serious side. One can tell that they put plenty of work into this album and take their music quite seriously. "Joe King" is a tale of all the hero has done wrong in his life. It also contains an insane drumbeat and hysterical horns till the very end. The title track, "Make A Move" tells of an era when jazz musicians transported booze illegally inside their standup bases. Needless to say, this is a very good album. Despite that my pesronal tastes were more toward harder ska-core, I still enjoyed this album a great deal.
