| The world is rife with mascot racers, yet very few are really worth ones time. Crash Team Racing is a memorable exception. The graphics in this game are striking. Absolutely no fog was used in this game, and a constant frame rate is maintained. The characters are well designed and all have a high polygon count. Advanced techniques, such as full reflections, were used to make this game even more aesthetically pleasing (to maintain the speed, these extra effects are eliminated in the 2-4 player modes) The game would succeed even without the Crash license, with its realistic physics and tight controls. Every character has a unique quality which greatly enhances the replay value. The game is filled with modes which have you coming back for more long after youve beaten Nitrous Oxide, the final boss. Items are collected by completing challenges, opening up gem cups. Once these gem cups are completed, new characters are offered. In addition, the 2-4 player battle mode is packed with features which include the ability to customize teams and available weapons. The games soundtrack also does not disappoint, with music tailored to the environments (lively tunes for bright tracks, etc.). The voices, are also impressive. The only real complaints I have about this game are the bosses (they have an unlimited supply of one kind of weapon) and the tracks which, albeit well designed, are too short. Overall, this game is a worthy purchase for anyone looking for a GOOD mascot racing game or a light spirited racing simulation. |
