Lately, it appears that good ole Slowhand is taking steps to get back on track with what hes best at: the blues. Forgive him for the pop that he attempted with 22 Nights, because Reptile is one of the best commercial blues records since B.B. Kings Blues on the Bayou.
Reptile gushes with soul, rock, and everything that could satisfy any music fan. Eric Claptons guitar playing, especially during his often breathtaking solos, is phenomenal, and he seems to have rediscovered how to use distortion correctly.
Tracks like I Aint Gonna Stand For It make you want to put your hands up in the air and scream; and Got You on My Mind revolves around a cool piano line. Probably the highlight of the record is Broken Down, a slow blues song packed with lot of soul. In addition, Clapton covers several artists on the record, ranging from John Taylor to Stevie Wonder to Ray Charles.
This album is terrific: Eric Clapton has truly done it again. |
