| I have not taken this disc out of my car since I acquired it about three months ago. And no, I dont mean that it has been lost under the seat, or taped up, blocking that little hole in my rear right window. Basically, it has not once left my CD player. With truly captivating melodies, smart lyrics, and extremely capable musicianship, The Exies might just be the next radio-friendly, hook-driven band you hear on your own car radio. Unlike most popular bands (Fuel, *cough cough*), however, The Exies create a smart mix of 70's pop sensibility and current, hard-edged rock. While they dont quite approach the angst or hate exuded by numerous other new bands, their disc has no shortcomings when it comes to self expression. 1970 is a fine track, full of allusions to the era, while Ego Tryptophane has a chorus that will have you psychoanalyzing yourself as you sing along. If you have ever found yourself tapping your little toesies to an XTC tune, this disc is for you. |
