ARLENE GROCERY
NEW YORK, NY
-Chris Kelly
Jennifer Turner, lead singer of Furslide, may
be a woman, may be angry, and may rock, but she is not an angry female
rocker.
Although the lyrics do reminisce of broken love and faith, the female perspective of life doesn't take away from the general rockiness of the genre that their debut record, "Adventure", falls in to.With epic lullabies like "Faith" and ditties like "Today Forever," Furslide managed to cover the entire alternative rock spectrum without being drawn to the blandness of the majority of modern music. "Over My Head," highlighted the beauty of Turner's voice, and while some found the bridges to be anticlimatic on the record, seemed to have an endless flow of energy.
Although playing New York's Arlene Grocery may have been a step down for Furslide, as they recently the opening act for Sean Lennon and Lenny Kravitz on their national tour, it is the intimacy of the venues that enhance the on-stage excitement and energy. Their live set focuses on high points of "Adventure," and is an experience that no one can stand to miss.
