Although MTV news anchor John Norris felt in necessary to give a pre-show speech telling the audience to maintain a high energy level, the crowd needed no warming up. On Sunday, October 25th, Alanis Morissette gave a free concert to approximately 2000 fans that were lucky enough to win tickets from local radio station Z100.
The concert was staged to promote her new album, "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie", due for release November 3rd. In this appearance, which was recently aired on MTV, Morissette introduced the audience to her new style of music.
Her first song, "Baba", took the audience by storm with its captivating tribal groove combined with the same alternative beat on the songs from her first release, "Jagged Little Pill". Although she does have a new style of music, some songs, such as "Can't Not", still maintain the emotional rage that made her so popular in the first place. Most of the material she played was from her forthcoming release, although she also managed to sneak in some old favorites such as "Ironic," "All I Really Want" and "You Oughta Know," infused with the new tribal feeling.
Overall, her new style is thoroughly enjoyable and will definitely attract new fans while maintaining the loyal following she has already amassed.
